H. John Cumming, Petroleum Geologist - Consultant
John received a B.S. degree in Geology from SUNY Brockport (1976), and a Masters Degree in Geology from the Idaho State University (1980). He is a proven oil finder with over twenty-seven years of experience developing commercial oil and gas prospects, primarily in onshore areas of southeast Texas and southern Louisiana. In 1980, he was recruited by the Gulf Oil Exploration and Production Company and began his career in Houston, Texas and was promoted to Chief Geologist for Gulf in
Gulf’s office in Port Morsby, Papua New Guinea. He was directly responsible for supervising the drilling and successful completion of the first offset delineation well in Juha Field, a major gas/condensate discovery that tested at a rate of 36 million cubic feet of gas and 3700 barrels of condensate per day. In 1985, he left Gulf Oil and started his own geological/geophysical consulting practice, which, he has successfully continued to the present. His past clients included, Amoco Oil, OXY Petroleum, Unocal, Ryder Scott Petroleum Engineers, Devon Energy, El Paso Oil and Gas along with several smaller independents. For these clients, he evaluated and developed existing fields, and performed complete geologically integrated 3-D seismic interpretations. He had six wells successfully completed in Selmo Field S.E. Turkey, which increased production from two thousand barrels of oil per day to over eight thousand barrels of oil per day. Since 2005, he has consulted and provided new drilling opportunities for New Century Energy Corp, Houston, Texas including three deep drilling prospects in Matagorda, Goliad and McMullen Counties which if combined have a recoverable reserve potential well in excess of a hundred billion cubic feet of gas.
